We’re Home!: Part 2

Here are the second set of images for this week!

This tiny church is nearly 1000 years old, and is next door to Malarie’s Dad’s place. This is actually taken from his yard. Amazing.

The pride of the former Yugoslavia:

These guys were sea snails. You can actually buy them by the bag at the market in town. We (when I say “we” I mean Malarie’s Dad) prepared them by chopping them up and cooking them in a sauce to eat with pasta. Suprisingly yummy. :)

This guy was the proverbial “early bird” and was on the hunt:

Thanks for looking, see you tomorrow!

We’re Home!: Part 1

We’re back in action and getting caught up after a very refreshing vacation. Thanks for everyone’s patience and well wishes during our time away. We definitely had a chance to recharge our batteries, just in time for the wedding season to get in to full swing.

As you might have already guessed I have a bunch of photos to share, even though I tried to make sure to take some days without a camera in my hand at all. We spent most of our time in Croatia, so that is where most of the images will be centered. I also took relatively few photos in Paris in comparison, as I was feeling nostalgic for our previous life there and just wanted a lot of quality time with Malarie.

For the images I did take, I made a conscious attempt to change up my style a bit. When shooting for myself I tend to look for the big, grandiose scene. I made an attempt to shift a little and shoot “smaller”, meaning looking for the more minute details that are often passed by but have as much of an effect on the feel of a place as any giant landscape. This was also my goal due to the fact that I have shot many images at these locations in the past, and I wanted them to feel fresh.

I’m going to post up images likely everyday this week, 10 at a time or so. I’ll start with Croatia and end the week in Paris.

OK, enough talk. On to the images!

We stayed on the mainland in a traditional house the first night of our stay due to the fact that we came in late, and there were no boats running to the islands. Not a bad view to start out the day with though:

It was my birthday on the 15th, and my one wish was to have the Lobster Pasta at Pavo’s. I was lucky enough that the local fisherman were able to get two of them for us. Sometimes that’s the way it is with island life, if they can’t catch it, you can’t eat it! :-)

Before:

After: (it really didn’t stand a chance)

BTW, there was 3 of us eating, I didn’t do all that damage on my own. :-)

This was an urchin that Malarie found on the shore. This particular one had seen better days. You’ll see these everywhere in the water close to shore. Watch your feet!

That’s all for today, see you tomorrow!

Vacation Time……Almost! Part 4

Last one I promise!! :)

These are some images from other parts of Croatia we’ve visited. Most people don’t realize that Croatia has nearly 1200 islands off their coast in the Adriatic. Very few of them are yet inhabited.

This first image is from one of my favorite islands we visited, Brač. The beach is in the small town of Bol. This beach comes to a point, and the point will actually shift directions based on the currents and time of year. The beach itself is made up of tiny, smooth pebbles rather than sand, and is very popular. This image was taken very early in the morning, or you wouldn’t have been able to see the beach that time of year. :)

The next 2 images are from Makarska, Croatia. Makarska is a coastal town on the mainland of Croatia. It is tucked right between Biokovo Mountain, and the coast.

Finally these images are from Split, Croatia. Split is actually a large port town, with 200,000 plus people. It has a walled historical area called the Diocletian’s Palace, parts of which date back to the 12th century.

Well that’s all from me for a couple of weeks, I hope you enjoyed the photos from some of our previous travels, and that you won’t be tired of them since I’ll likely have more upon our return!

See you soon!

Vacation Time……Almost! Part 3

OK we’re carrying on with the theme of us getting into vacation mode by sharing some of my favorite photos from the locations we’re going to visit. After Paris we’re heading to………

Dubrovnik, Croatia! Malarie’s Dad is Croatian, and has retired there. We try to have a visit at least once a year, so I’ve had the opportunity to visit this beautiful country several times. It really is a gorgeous place, and it seems to get busier with tourists every time we go. I’ll post some of my favorites from the Dubrovnik area today, with some other Croatian images tomorrow. Thanks for viewing!

Vacation Time……Almost! Part 2

Alright! Yesterday I promised I would post some of my fav color photos from Paris today so here we go! :

I have a soft spot for this photo since we lived about 50 yards to the right of this church/square:

Thanks for looking! Tomorrow, I’ll be posting about our second location!
